Your Support Created a Safe Space to Play
At United Through Sport, we are deeply proud to show you exactly how your contributions are changing lives. Whether you’ve donated once, sponsored a fundraiser, or given regularly, you are part of a global community making real and lasting change.
One of the places your kindness has reached is Fisher’s of Men Crèche in Schauderville, a small community crèche run by passionate local staff and supported by our volunteers. For the children who attend, it’s more than childcare, it’s an escape and, hopefully, the first step on an educational journey that helps them rise above their circumstances.
Many of these children grow up in environments where violence, drugs, alcohol, and crime are part of daily life. Though Fisher’s of Men Crèche stands as a place where they can learn, play, and grow.
From Risk to Safety
Until recently, something vital was missing. The area surrounding the crèche was unsafe, littered with broken glass, discarded bottles, and other dangerous materials. With no secure boundary, the children were confined to a small indoor room for most of the day.
They missed out on the developmental, emotional, and social benefits of outdoor play: the simple joy of running, exploring, and using their imaginations in fresh air. It’s not just play, it’s the sheer joy of being outdoors.
But thanks to your support, that has now changed. With enough unrestricted funds raised, we’ve been able to erect a full perimeter fence around the property. It’s purpose-built to prevent climbing and vandalism, and it secures the entire area, creating a space where children can safely play, explore, and grow.
One of the teachers told us:
“This fence didn’t just make things safer, it gave our children the freedom to be children. That’s something they’ve never truly had before.”
The Power of Play
For the first time, the children at Fisher’s of Men can run freely, laugh without fear, and connect with one another through games and imagination. The transformation is more than physical, it’s emotional and deeply meaningful.
Outdoor play promotes teamwork, confidence, and joy. It gives children space to dream and to learn through movement and creativity. In a community where so much feels uncertain, this new play space brings stability, hope, and safety, things every child deserves.
