A Siyaphakama Star’s Journey
At United Through Sport, we believe that sport has the power to change lives. Every day, we see young people discover new opportunities, build confidence, and achieve things they never thought possible. Sibahle Luthi’s journey is a perfect example of what can happen when talent, determination, and opportunity come together.
Sibahle’s story began at Daniels Primary School, where she joined our Siyaphakama Programme. Her natural ability on the netball court, combined with her commitment in the classroom, quickly stood out. Through her dedication, she earned a place as a Siyaphakama All Star, recognising both her sporting talent and academic achievements.
In 2023, Sibahle took the next step in her journey by joining the United Through Sport Senior School of Excellence Programme. Through the programme, she was awarded a netball opportunity at Alexander Road High School, giving her access to quality education while continuing to develop as an athlete.
Since then, Sibahle has embraced every opportunity with determination, resilience, and a willingness to learn. Her hard work has been rewarded with an incredible year of sporting success.
She was selected to represent Eastern Province in the Under-17 Netball Team, a significant achievement that reflected years of dedication to the sport she loves.
But Sibahle’s story did not stop there.
After taking up rugby during high school, she discovered a new passion and quickly excelled. Her commitment and athletic ability earned her selection for the South African Schools Under-18A Women’s Rugby Team, an outstanding accomplishment and a testament to her adaptability and determination.
Sibahle’s journey highlights the life-changing opportunities that sport can create. What began with netball opened the door to education, personal development, and ultimately the chance to represent South Africa on the rugby field. It also demonstrates that young people are not limited to a single pathway. By embracing new challenges and believing in themselves, they can achieve extraordinary things.
As women’s rugby continues to grow across South Africa, athletes like Sibahle are inspiring the next generation of girls to step onto the field with confidence, challenge expectations, and pursue their dreams.
