This past weekend, United Through Sport Caribbean was proud to see their volunteers take part in the 2025 Caribbean Carnival Rugby 7s, held over two high-energy days, Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd August, at the Gros Islet Mini Stadium in Saint Lucia. The event brought together teams from across the region (and other Caribbean islands) for an exciting celebration of rugby, culture, and community.

Though UTS was not the organiser, our volunteers were active at every level of the tournament, from playing on the field to providing professional medical support and managing match operations behind the scenes.
Tournament Highlights
The tournament featured multiple divisions, with fast-paced 14-minute matches showcasing the agility, strategy, and spirit of rugby sevens. The results at the end of the weekend were:
- Men’s Division Champion: G. Police
- Women’s Division Champion: Misfit
- Youth (U20) Champion: SLS North
A special congratulations to Jamal, one of our standout volunteers, who played with SLS North and helped lead the team to a first-place finish! Jamal and Grace, both part of United Through Sport’s programmes, proudly took part in multiple divisions, representing the values of hard work and inclusivity that define our mission.
Volunteer Roles That Made a Difference
Beyond athletic performance, UTS volunteers filled key roles that contributed to the success of the event:
- Physiotherapy Team: Our volunteer physios worked tirelessly over both days, providing crucial injury prevention, massages, and post-match recovery care to athletes from all teams. Their professionalism and quick response to injuries made them an essential part of the event.
- Sports Management: From tracking scores and player stats to managing logistics and ensuring each match ran smoothly, our sports management volunteers played a critical role behind the scenes, gaining valuable experience in real-world sports operations.
Why It Matters
Opportunities like the Carnival Rugby 7s go beyond the scoreboard. They give young people the chance to engage in real sporting environments, develop professional skills, and feel the impact of sport as a force for connection and empowerment.
We’re incredibly proud of our volunteers for stepping up with passion, professionalism, and positivity throughout the weekend. Their contribution shows exactly what United Through Sport stands for: building futures through sport, teamwork, and opportunity.
Thank You
A heartfelt thank you to the tournament organisers, participating teams, and our amazing UTS volunteers who brought energy and dedication to every role. The Carnival 7s was more than a tournament, it was a reminder of how sport can unite, inspire, and elevate.
