Local Runners Shine in National Track & Field
The Soufriere Mini Stadium was alive with energy this past weekend as Saint Lucia hosted its highly anticipated National Track & Field Race. Young athletes from across the island showcased their speed, endurance, and determination in a variety of events ranging from the explosive 60m sprints to the grueling 5000m long-distance races. The competition brought together talent from multiple age groups, spanning from 11 to 20 years old, all vying for a chance to represent Saint Lucia at the Caribbean-wide track and field contest.
Survivors Running Club Dominates National Race
In a stunning display of athletic prowess, seven runners emerged victorious, qualifying for the next stage of competition at the regional level. Among these remarkable athletes, the Survivors Running Club, a dedicated training and mentorship program that works closely with local talent, made an especially strong showing. Four of the seven qualifiers proudly hail from this distinguished club, cementing its reputation as a powerhouse for developing top-tier track and field athletes.
The event featured thrilling moments, with sprinters exploding out of the blocks and distance runners pushing their limits in a test of endurance. The younger competitors in the 11-12 age bracket impressed spectators with their raw speed in the shorter distances, while the older, more experienced runners in the u17 and u20 category demonstrated strategic pacing and stamina in the middle- and long-distance events.
The Survivors Running Club’s success in this national race underscores the effectiveness of their training philosophy, emphasizing discipline, technique, and mental resilience. Their four qualifying athletes—two sprinters and two distance runners—earned their spots through hard-fought victories, displaying exceptional form and commitment throughout their respective races.
“We are beyond proud of our athletes, their hard work and dedication have paid off, and now they have the opportunity to take their talents to the Caribbean stage. We are committed to providing them with the support they need to perform at their best.”
