Exciting New Partnership: United Through Sport Mauritius Teams Up with Loreto College Quatre Bornes!
In a vibrant step towards promoting sports in Mauritius, United Through Sport (UTS) Mauritius has officially partnered with Loreto College Quatre Bornes (LCQB) to introduce the exciting new sport of netball to local schools. This collaboration marks a significant moment for both organisations, as they work together to empower young female students and foster a love for the game.
The journey began when UTS Mauritius President Dilip Jaygopaul introduced the Mayor of Quatre Bornes District Council to the current cohort of UTS coaches, who passionately pitched the idea of incorporating netball into the school curriculum. Recognising the potential of this dynamic sport, the Mayor and District Council representatives agreed to fund the construction of two netball rings. The perfect location? Right at LCQB for Girls, where the college’s enthusiasm for new experiences shone brightly.
Incredibly, within just a week, the netball rings were not only constructed but also craned into the school grounds! UTS Mauritius wasted no time, launching a pilot sports project to kick off netball coaching at the college. This initiative allowed teachers to observe firsthand how the sport is delivered and coached, fostering a deeper understanding of netball’s benefits.
“I’m thrilled about the partnership between United Through Sport Mauritius and Loreto College Quatre Bornes! The PE department and students have embraced netball with such enthusiasm. We’ve already seen fantastic progress, and we’re planning a permanent netball court to support this growth. Clive, Prisca, and Joana are dedicated to enhancing sports for the girls, and our volunteer coaches will bolster their efforts. Our mission is to inspire young athletes to get active, and the future of this partnership looks incredibly promising!”
As August and September rolled on, the excitement surrounding netball at LCQB grew. Country Director Darren Taylor reached out to the Head Teacher with an official introduction of UTS Mauritius, and the response from the PE staff—Clive, Prisca, and Joana—was overwhelmingly positive. The success of the pilot program has resulted in this pioneering new partnership with UTS to provide regular sports coaches for the school, a move that could significantly enrich the students’ athletic experience.
This partnership promises to be a game-changer, not just for Loreto College Quatre Bornes, but for the broader community in Mauritius. With netball set to flourish, we can’t wait to see the impact this collaboration will have on the next generation of female athletes! Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting journey!
