United Through Sport Trustee Runs London Marathon
United Through Sport Co-Founder and Trustee, David Burton will be running the London Marathon this April, with work colleague Simon. They have been training hard and are ready to raise some decent cash to continue our great work in Sout Africa. This is their plea…
Team story
We’re raising money to build a sports pitch in a South African township.
It’s for a charity called United Through Sport.
We’ve even made a YouTube video so you can hear our plea and see where the pitch will be built, plus some of the great work the charity does in South Africa.
Our Video Plea & Sports Pitch
If you would like to donate to this then you can do this through Virgin Money Giving by clicking here.
The pitch is attached to a longstanding primary school, so will be looked after and well maintained for many years to come. It will also allow thousands of disadvantaged kids to play sport and develop to their full potential, both on and off the pitch.
Oh, and we’ve never run a marathon before, so we’re both feeling pretty nervous. There’s already been lots of blood, sweat and tears, mainly in that order.
We’d really appreciate anything you could donate to help us (and the kids in South Africa) build the pitch.
And on this occasion, to reinforce the tangible and long-term nature of your donation, no money will be taken for admin, fundraising or staff costs – everything you donate will go straight into building the pitch.
Note: we can make this bold and rare commitment because Dave is a founding trustee of the charity – he set it up with his brother and a few friends over ten years ago.
The overall cost for the pitch is £30,000 but we are starting with a target of £5,000. Other fundraising activities throughout the year will raise the remaining amount.
Thank you for your support in advance.
And we’ll see you at the finish line (hopefully anyway).

PS Below is a short video testimonial from a South African girl (called Lindiwe) who United Through Sport has supported since 2010. She comes from a poor township and, through her dedication and netballing talent, she has worked her way out of her tough upbringing, through secondary school, and into a top university. It’s a truly life-changing story. We also challenge you not to well up (just a teeny bit) at 3:33
